Steampunk Mushroom DIY Glue Gun Holder!

This tutorial has 13 photos ~ scroll down to see them all :)

I am so very late with my DT creation over at Creative Fingers this time... So sorry I haven't been around much. The last week and a half has been crazy stressful and just all around crappy! 💩
Started with an exploding migraine that lasted for days, my hands have been very sore and cracked from the psoriasis, my back is killing me ~ and on top of that the dreaded windows 10 update messed up my laptop! Hate that Microsoft is forcing Win10 updates thats flawed and full of bugs.

This time it was REALLY bad, got the BSOD (Blue Screen Of Death) several times, hours upon hours of trying to fix it. Giving up a couple times even when I could not see straight... So much stress about loosing all my files as I ofcourse have forgotten to backup for months! Finally I was able to go bak to an earlier version of windows, and yeah, I do know u can postpone updates. Already set to max because of the last buggy update, so I was screwed... Have postponed it again now, hopefully the next update will be okay..

🎁 If you're looking for the winners of my last blogcandy, there will be a blogpost soon announcing the lucky pair, along with a new blogcandy!

Creative Fingers #188., is sponsored by our own DT Angelique this time with a cool text stampset! As always we it is an 'Anything goes theme', and you are more than welcome to join with your creations 😄

~ 🍄 DIY Glue Gun holder Tutorial 🍄 ~

(Click on the photo for a bigger view)
(if it is still too small, I have made a pdf
with all the photos wich you can view here)

The inspiration for my glue gun holder:
I planned on buying the spellbinders one, but then thinking
I can do that myself with some cardboard! So I went looking for ideas on youtube. So many different materials used! After watching 20++ videos I planned my own take on the holder ~ and I documented my process. I hope it's all understandable :)

The inspiration for the mushroom came from watching among other crafty youtubers ~ CreativeMom ~ who takes jars or bottles of plastic or glass and use them as a base for making the most awesome mushroom fairy houses! I haven't seen anyone do a steampunk mushroom with paperclay though, and I watch ALOT of youtubes... am I the first I wonder? Probably not ;)

You can find the paperclay recipe I used here:
'Paper Mache Clay without Joint Compound'.
Be prepared for a messy stickyness situation if u try to make your own! If you are not as adventurous, skip this step or find some DAS paperclay or similar airdry clay in your hobby stores.

If you wonder what on earth the visa card does inbetween my tools, it is because credit cards or giftcards (when outdated) makes awesome tools for applying paints, making marks or scraping off stuff. Don't throw away! Btw. tooth pick was new and unused.. 😂

You can speed up things with a heatgun, but I prefer working in stages over several days to make sure that everything is good and dry, also better for my back to not craft for too long.

You can find many great tutorials on youtube for theese awesome Finnabair rust pastes! here are some good ones ❤️
Finnabair: All About Rust Paste - Instant Vintage: Altered Camera
Keren Tamir: How to Use Finnabair Rust and Patina pastes - Beginner techniques.
If you don't have any of theese or similar brand pastes, the frugalcrafter Lindsay have a video where she makes it! DIY Rust Paste!

What is Steampunk you say? Read all about it on Wikipedia.

I have made many Steampunk inspired creations before, if you wish to take a look, here are some of my favourites: Steampunk Owl Box, Steampunk Lucy Loo, Art Journal ~ Leafy Sea-Dragon Mermaid, my Vintage Inspiration Book & My Vintage Journey ~ Home.

❤️ I LOVE how my shroom house turned out! ❤️

.. and I am VERY happy that the glue gun still fit inside the snug holder even after all the metal tape paints and cogs were added! Didn't think to leave room for that, so it is a very tight fit. All the better ~ the gun is not going anywhere on its own ;)

It might not be that clever of the fairy or gnome that lives in the mushroom house to leave their house keys hanging on that hook... there might be some sneaky pixies or leprechauns about looking to steal their treasures! 🧚🏻‍♀️🗝️

The red silicone heat resistant pad you see is from Panduro Hobby.
It was twice as big, so I cut it to fit.
I also plan on getting some anti-skid material to put on the bottom of the holder. With the weight of the mushroom it stands very well on my table with no worries that it will slide off :)

The ingredients used:
Stamps/Images: ...
Papers: Lots and lots of carboard pieces (like the covers of watercolor pads).
Embellishments: misc. metal charms, keychain, gears & cogs. The metal of a paperclip bent to shape of a hook.
Tools: Panduro Hobby scalpel and self healing mat, glue gun.
Embossingfolders: Sizzix - Tim Holtz 3D Impresslits 'Scallop', 3D Texture Fades 'Mechanics' & 'Foundry'.
Moulds: Green Stuff World Silicone molds 'Steampunk'.
Dies: Sizzix Tim Holtz - Alterations Collection Bigz Die 'Gadget Gears 2', Bigz L Die 'Industrial', Alterations Thinlits 'Gearhead' Dies.
Essentials/Adhesives: Sookwang Scor-pal Double sided tape. Drywall/mesh tape. Aluminium tape. Cardboard box cutter/knife. Scissors. Aluminium roll of food/kitchen foil.
Aleene's clear gel tacky glue. Panduro PVA/Varnish glue.
Prima Marketing inc. Finnabair Art Basics 'Heavy Body Gel' (thick glue).

Techniques/Mediums: See the photo tutorial! I used my Panduro heat gun to speed up some of the drying time. Royal talens Art Creation elements white gesso and Amsterdam black gesso (primers). Ranger ink Adirondack acylic paint dabber 'espresso', Dylusions by Dyan Reaveley acrylic paint 'Melted chocolate', and Dina Wakley Media heavy body acrylic paint 'umber'. Prima Finnabair Extravagance Rust Set Effect Pastes 'Brown Rust', 'Gold/Yellow' rust and 'Red rust'. Tsukineko 'Walnut ink' spray. Viva Decor Inka Gold waxes 'Copper', 'Brown-Gold', 'Gold', and 'Old Silver'.
