Merry Christmas ♥ CF Blogcandy!

Enkelt men veldig lekkert :)

There is a fabulous Christmas blogcandy over at Creative Fingers, and if
you enter before Dec.31st., you may be one of our three lucky winners!
I'm sponsoring the #1. surprise candy, which is full of
Stamps, Ribbons, Bling, Papers & other goodies!
And our Angelique is kindly donating six plus four amazing
stamp sets for winners #2. and #3. ♥ ♥ ♥

*** Merry Christmas ***

We're closing in on christmas now, only about a week to go :) Theese cards are very simple cards, all monochrome and quick to create. The christmas tree stamp has been heat embossed in green, several times to get a good 3d effect. The journaling page inside and background on the first card are made with the distress ink Evergreen bough and flicking water droplets, removing some color with kitchen paper ~ one of my favourite Tim Holtz techniques to do ♥

Steampunk Owl Box

http://creativefingerschallengeblog.blogspot.com

For this fortnights challenge #121. at Creative Fingers we are lucky to have one of my absolute favourite artists as our sponsor, Rick St. Dennis, and as always it is an 'Anything goes' theme. You are more than welcome to join with your creations! The fantastic owl from RSD is most likely based on Bubo, from the movie Clash of the Titans, and is really Athenas owl in greek mythology,  :)

http://sparkleandglitterwithrick.blogspot.no/

My project is a mixed media altered steampunk kind of box. It can house pencils or paintbrushes etc., and I'm thinking it will make a very cool gift this christmas! It's for a dude, so no embellishes other than the decor on the box. If it were for myself I'd add some bling as well. But since there is not, It is a very economical, easy and quick to make christmas gift. Plus you probably have all the things you need to make it already! Some things like the adhesive metal tape and fiberglass tape is a bit expensive, you will for sure find in a hardware store, but you can also just use doublesided tape or glue with aluminium foil that you have in the kitchen, it tears very easily though so I'd invest in a metal tape.
- Or you could get foiled/metallic cardstocks, or even some heavy duty kitchen foil - as was pointed out to me by Autumn :)

There is lots of stuff that would create great texture, magic mesh, lace or jute for example. You can add diecuts, letters, buttons, coins, strings and other things you can think of. It would be good to have a paperstub to rub around the items to make them stand out well, and some tools to make dots, scratches and lines with, like my little ball tool in the photo below. I just went the easy way here with embossingfolders!

There are many great tutorials online, just search on youtube for metal art / metal embossing / or Metal foil tape. Like the SwirlydoosKits video I was inspired by here and RachO113 Metal tape art

The cardboard box I picked up for about a dollar, but I'm sure it would be easy enough to create a similar pencil container with some cardboard scraps, empty cereal boxes/toilet rolls, or up-cycle a box you already have! :)
I added some fun foam (mosegummi) strips to the sides, and covered it with metallic tape and the other tape is a Fiberglass tape.

After I'd covered my box, I covered one side of it at a time with black paint, let it sit for a minute - then using kitchen paper to rub most of the paint off. The grooves in the metal will hold the black and make the embossed areas really stand out. Repeat until you get the look you want, and let dry. I painted the inside while I waited.

I added the lettering through a stencil with Inka Gold on the inner cardboards, and used a Tim Holtz blending tool. Then the box got rubbed with the blending tool / sponge. It dries pretty quickly, so I keep a baby-wet-wipe covering the inka gold I had put on a plastic sheet with a spatula. But if you don't have theese tools you can use a metallic paint and a cosmetic sponge instead.

The Distress ink pads in the photo are the ones I used to watercolor the owl, as well as a red and a yellow twinkling H2O watercolor. I used a silicone adhesive to adhere the owl to the box, but any other kind of strong adhesive would also be good. If you want to seal your project you can with a fixative or other sealant, but I find it keeps well without :)
