Altered Candy Box ~ Frosty mixed media magic!

http://creativefingerschallengeblog.blogspot.no/

For my DT project this fortnights challenge #186. at Creative Fingers, I altered a candy jar with some mixed media magic ~ it looks all frosty and wintery after some drybrushing of white gesso! It's my favourite mixed media technique right now ~ see my Stamperia Jewellery Box here! On that blogpost you will also find links to many of the wonderful artists that has youtube channels where you can watch how to do this magical mixed media technique! :)
The Creative Fingers are sponsored by our DT Angelique with a fab stampset! As always it is an 'Anything goes theme', and you are more than welcome to join with your creations ♥

Step-by-step Mixed media box / candy jar:

First I gessoed the jar in black, and when dry, I adhered the metal ribbons. Then adding the modelling paste and artstones, using a stencil on the lid. And then covering everything in black gesso.

...
When the gesso was all dry I used a stippling brush and added several kinds of waxes to all the surfaces. Inside every nook and cranny, leaving only a little of the black gesso as a shadow bottom layer.

...
Now, I could have left it there and only highlighted a little bit, but my mum is more a light romantic style person ♥ So next I dry-brushed on white gesso (using the heat gun to keep it dry), on the raised surfaces only.
Stippling the brush against the surface everywhere makes the gesso look like frost or snow! Leaving the waxes to peek through in the recessed areas.

Finally I added some shine and glitter glaze/pastes. It doesn't really show well in photos, but it is very noticible sparkly when it catches the light. See the detail photo at the bottom of the blogpost!
 ..

♥ The finished frosty-looking box/jar ♥

I enter my mixed media project in theese fab Chall.
